Depends on the intended use. Nitronic 60 is a P8 according to ASME IX, so any P8 should provide a mechanically sound weld. We weld small bores up on some parts using 316L plugs and 316L filler and have no problems with the welds. The conditions that might mitigate against using a 300 series stainless would be service conditions with higher risk of chloride pitting or crevice corrosion. N60 is also superior to the 300 SS's in resisting galling.

We weld Nitronic 60 to Hastelloy.  They are fillet welds made with Hastelloy W filler wire.  We have good results.

Three years ago we converted our 316 SS (with 309 filler metal) conveyor buckets to a Nitronic 60 mesh belt system.  In my research I found a product data sheet that recommended  E16-8-2 (F. No. 5) and added it to our existing WPS for P8 base metal and F5 filler metal.  The service temp for this system is 1200 F.  We use E16-8-2 filler metal to weld the rod ends that connected the mesh belt sections.  To date we have had good results.  It welds good and we have not had the cracked rod end weldments commonaly found on the previous configuration.  In hind sight though I do not really think E16-8-2 was the best choice of a filler metal, but its working and you know what they say about "if it ain't broke don't fix it.
