I bought a 300D in july of 08 and i have had to take it back 3 times since.  it has right around 400 hrs on it and i have put at least 400 on another back up machine.  the problem with the machine is that when i start having problems with the machine it wont idle down and then after a while the shaft that comes out of the block that the idler arm pivots on snaps off.   just wanted to know if anyone else has had this problem or have heard anything similar. thanks guys

I also have a 2008 300D but I have not had any problems so far with it. I only have around 200 hrs on it but I love it. Maybe its just an isolated case. Hopefully they get everything worked out for you.

Call Lincoln directly and talk to the warranty services department (1-216-481-8100) and ask them to give you a loner or rent you one (which they will) since it's been in and out of the shop so much and you are still under warranty.  Don't tell them that you have a backup machine and tell them you need it for a job that starts 2 weeks or you will be sol, they will need about 2 weeks get one shipped to the repair shop that you take it to, and name a specific drop dead date.  This will probably be the first time Lincoln has herd of you problem and frustration unless you have talked to them before.  They will call the repair shop and build a fire under them and expedite any part they need to fix your machine.  You will be surprised how fast your machine gets fixed and fixed right.

That what the Lincoln area rep told me to do and it worked for me.

You might not have any problems Cactus but how many Hours do you have on that magic welder?

Yeah, Im welding with an 05 Perkins 300D right now. 6600 hrs. It starts and welds all day everyday. Do wish I was running mine, though. One of the other hands was mentioning the other day " Thats one helluva truck to just be sitting here in the parking lot." Im like YEAH, I PRETTY FREAKING MUCH KNOW THAT!!! LOL!

Speedy recovery, Cactus.

Cactus, Sure is nice feeling to have a rig for personal use and not really have to use it every day. My crew ALWAYS trying to borrow for their use but then I never get it back like I sent it ,not going to let'em use it anymore. (bought 2 ranger 10's for the site work) Also I bet Rick still has the 1st tank of diesel that he bought in his welder.   PS GO STEELERS AND PENS
Parent - - By Cactusthewelder (*****) Date 04-21-2009 00:06
Im sure it's the first tank. BUT, It must be still good. I've seen him putting an additive in it to preserve the life of the fuel. Plus. He always wants to use MINE !

Lincoln has a kit that warranty shops can install to fix and update your problem.
Parent - - By JTMcC (***) Date 04-21-2009 21:38
KSellon that's very interesting, can you expand on that a bit, in particular (if you know) what years are affected? What does the kit actually replace/add?

And, is it a Perkins fix only? Does the kit have a part number?

I'm curious, I don't own a 300D but I know a LOT of people who do.

Thanks,
JTMcC.
