Could any one please explain to me the history of this equation and how to use it? Thanks

Q= (I x I) R T

I have E=(IxI)rt where

E=Energy/Heat Generated by Current Flow . Joules
I = Current in Amps
r=resistance in Ohms
t=duration of current flow in seconds.

This formula is discussed in AWS welding handbook volume 1, 9th edition. PG 58. The formula is used in resistance welding.Note that the resistance incorporates contact resistance between the electrodes and work, resistance between the workpieces,body resistance of the workpieces, and resistance of the electrode. All of these factors can vary with materials, electrode condition, workpiece cleanliness.

Of course all of your variables could represent something else.

Have a wonderful day
