I need to know what would be the best material to fabricate exhaust pipe with.  This compressor produces exhaust temperatures between 1000 and 1300 degrees. Or so I've been told. It runs at this heta nearly 24/7 so regular ol' mild steel flakes apart within a years time. I've been told stainless or maybe chromolly?
What do you guys think?

Hello Glenn, I seem to remember GM using 410 grade SS for exhaust systems on many of their vehicles. Definitely do some checking on the accuracy of my statement before making any decisions though and also look for suggestions/statements from others on the forum. Best regards, Allan

A 347 stainless would perform well in that temperature range.  We have used 316 on some emergency diesel exhausts that held up well, but the temps are just a little less (~200 F) than yours.

304SS. We use it to make oven baskets for parts up to 1,800F and quench. Least amount of scaling of anything else we tried and has pretty good strength at that temp.
