We have some aluminum lithium alloys that we are looking to experiment with.  I know that they need some sort of back purging, but someone recommended using a "hard purge."  What is that referring to?

This will be for a circumferential joint.  Is this comment above referring to the fact that just sealing the part and pumping it with gas purge is not good enough and that we'd need some sort of hard fixture?

Thanks

Read alot about variable polarity PAW and Aluminum Lithium tanks for launch vehicles... I know the lithium makes purge of both sides of a full pen weld a requirement.

Never heard the term "hard purge" before.

I've heard of hard and soft purge for computer hard drives, but not for welding.  I assume he just ment to put a good purge to it.
