I have a job spec calling for heat treat per section 4.4 D1.1 '86, holding time per table 4.4.2.
I don't have access to '86 code book. can anyone tell me if there is a difference in d1.1 5.8 '08 and table 5.2 '08 that would change the way its done from the '86 year book?

My '92 is different from the '08, so the '86 would most likely be different than the '08 as well.

If it helps - I have a 1990 D1.1 copy.  Section 4.4 is stress relief heat treatment

They can be found at a good price from a used technical bookstore.

Section 4.4 is on page 48 and Table 4.4.2 is on Page 45 of D1.1:1986 and they are a little different from the current edition. Here's the different lines from Table 4.4.2 for example:

Over 1/4" to 2" - 1 hr/in.
Over 2" - 2 hrs + 15 min for every inch over 2"

...and Section 4.4 is about half a page but, more than I'm going to type out. You can buy it at https://www.awspubs.com/product_info.php?products_id=770
I wish they made historical editions available in PDF ...and for less money. I don't suppose you could talk your customer into using current industry practices/standards?

Thanks everyone, if we get the job we will be getting an '86 version. I appreciate all the help!

Have you considered an RFI asking about using current codes?

The job is getting estimated, I told our estimators to put latest edition of D1.1 for heat treat. the drawings also called for welding to be done with E7018. I also told them to say on the bid that all welding will be done with E71T 1. I think the drawings need to be updated. All material is A36 so I cant see any reason for not allowing us to do it that way!
