IF A WPS IS MADE FOR GROOVE WELD 1G,2G & 3G.ACCORDING TO TABLE 4.4 PERFORMANCE QUALIFICATION A WELDER OPERATOR MAY TEST IN 3G ONLY, AND BE QUALIFIED IN 1G,2G & 3G.AM I CORRECT?

you are correct. a 3G position will qualify a welder welding Flat, Horizontal, and Vertical on plate. just make shure you read the notes for pipe

The welder is qualified as stated above, in the 3 positions.
The WPS is qualified for all positions in accordance with 4.1.7.

Where does it state that the wps is qualified for all positions? Curious.
I can't locate 4.1.7. Need help.

Brian,
Are you looking at the AWS D1.6 Code? I have the 1999 edition and 4.1.7 states "Qualification of WPS's for CJP groove welds in any position listed in 4.1.9 qualifies for all positions". 4.1.9 refers you to Figure 4.3 for test positions. Any of those positions qualifies the WPS for all positions.
