My company needs to qualify a procedure per AWS B2.1. The material we will be using is 4140 steel 3/8" thick plate using 4130 filler metal. My question is how do we find the A number for the filler metal as well as the M for the plate?
My copy of B2.1 is from 1984. The M Number is listed in table C2. The A number is listed in table B2. It's pretty straighforward. You might have to convert 4140 into an ASME number. Call the steel supplier.
