Sometimes can't find those marks or flywheel mark either.  Pull plug on #1 by radiator and get it up on compression stroke.  The mag drive slots should be a tad bit off horizontal.  FM mag put rotor on #1 upper left or Bosch #1 upper right tower.  Timing order 1-3-4-2.  Adjust later with timing light if can find the flywheel mark.
