D17.1 Figure 4.7 gives dimensions of test sheet sizes for fillet weld. I'm looking at the dimensions for < / = 0.063".
The header says 'Minimum Dimensions (in.)' but the W dimension has a note that says 4" is a suggested dimension.
Does this mean that 4" is the minimum acceptable dimension but it can be bigger?
Or does it mean that 4" is suggested and it can be any size? Say...2" x 5"?
The reason I'm asking is because we have a number of 2" x 5" x 0.020" already cut and we can produce an acceptable fillet using them.

I would understand that as meaning:
4" is the minimum, and since note (1) states that it is also the "suggested" size, I would say you could go bigger, but not smaller.

We use 4" here, but I'm sure you can go bigger.
