Looking for info on welding 630 to 1018

A 309 electrode is typically used.  No preheat needed for the 630, 350 F max interpass.  Be aware that the 630 heat affected zone properties will not match the properties properties of the base metal if already in the precipitation hardened condition when welded.  Of course the 1018 side of the weld will be weaker than the 630 in any heat treatment condition, so it is probably not a problem.

Thats what I thought as far as no pre heat and using 309. How will it be to machine afterwards?
