Help me out here folks. What is the most common performance qual being spec'd for bridge work under D1.5.
I am interested mostly in that which is being specified for fabrication as opposed to field work.

In order to cover 80-90% of the work in a shop I recently worked for, we did a 3G FCAW (that would cover F, H, V-which I don't necessarily agree with), and a 1G semi-automatic SAW.  About 10% of the welders would also take a 4G test.

Greg,
I don't have a D1.5 available. Would the test coupons be consistent with Fig 4.21 or 4.30 in D1.1?

We did unlimited thickness, so that would be fig 4.21.  We also did RT so that they could be used for fracture critical work.

The performance tests are essentially the same as those in D1.1, but the use of power tools for interpass cleaning is prohibited. If I remember correctly the use of hand tools for improving bead profile is all prohibited in the most recent edition of D1.5.

The most common tests I give are the standbys, 3G and 4G on 1 inch plate.

Best regards - Al
