What is NCCR and how does it apply to the welding trade? I have seen several jobs asking if you are NCCR certified. I looked on the web but didn't find much. Is it like an apprenticeship? A course of study?

Hi Root Pass!
Here's the web site for NCCER:

http://www.nccer.org/

This might also be helpful in answering specific questions:

Happy hunting!

Respectfully,
Henry

nccer is like the union trades journeymans test, but for non-union mostly. Depends on the company offering the training class or just the test, some are really good and some are a joke. I know one one company that got put on probation from the NCCER people for letting the tests leak out to get journeyman classed guys on the sight.

Thanks Scrappy. I had seen those web sites before but I didn't understand what it was or what was involved. That make it much clearer.

Has anyone heard of anybody getting NCCER credits transferred to a college or university?  I took some classes when NCCER was affiliated with the University Of Florida back in 02-03 but couldn't get a Texas school to accept the classes and certs.  That didnt surprise me because I couldn't get my pipefitters apprenticeship credits transferred unless I went to a college in Michigan.  Way too cold up there.
