Running a company rig with 07 pro 300 cat motor Is there anything I can do to the machine to get it to stack a little higher on the cap?
Parent - - By ibeweldingsum (***) Date 07-28-2009 01:31
Yeah take the radiator cap off and place a Lincoln under it LOL!!!

I have an 05 pro 300. What are you capping with?
Parent - - By 1mancrew (**) Date 07-28-2009 18:44
i have a pro 300 and when i'm capping with 70+ i turn the arc adjust back to A or B. this makes the puddle solidify quicker allowing you to stack up a little more iron. also, keep the heat down. these tend to be some hot running machines.  hope this helps.

capping with 3/16 70+ I will try it on the A and B settings and see how it goes thanks
Parent - - By RioCampo (***) Date 07-28-2009 21:47
B works pretty well for me too. Too much tinkering with the settings. They should have made a 0 -10 setting instead.

Sorry, just don't like em to much they turn too many RPM's for me and have to many doodads and thingamajigs to fiddle with and go wrong. just my two cents no more or less. All the people on here are pretty good folks. So no disrespect.

? you must be thinking of the pipe pro 304. Pro 300 runs at 1800 rpm.

GOOD LORD!! You are so right!! Well I guess I'm Just another RE RE proving how retarded I am. Sorry guy's!

Check your history book; blue vs. grey...blue won AND always will!
Parent - - By Lawrence (*****) Date 07-29-2009 11:55
That's a good one..

Blue almost never has a snappy comeback  :)

Progressive blue or antique grey everyone has to make a choice sooner or later lol.
Parent - - By ibeweldingsum (***) Date 07-30-2009 01:13
It's just a personal choice man no offence intended. No need for me to stir the pot when there are so many on here more qualified than me for that!

Every machine is a little different and takes some getting used to.

THE only way to roll

I own a '54 shorthood (rebuilt by K) and a pro 300.
To be honest the shorthood beads a little easier than the Miller, but in every other respect I'll take my miller. The pro needs to fueled up once a week, the shorthood, almost daily for the same amount of work. I have AC power with the pro and it welds 7018 so much better there is almost no comparison.
If I were to chase the pipeline full-time I would probably rig up a truck with the shorthood on it but I'm much more of a plant hand so I prefer a much more versitle machine.
Just my 2 cents.

BTW Rio, do you notice the same thing with the pro being a little harder to bead with or is it just me? The pro seems to require a more exact rod angle. With the shorty I can get away with a little more.

oh yeah, it really makes you work the rod angle a lot more. I have also notice you can long arc the pro300, like no machine i have ever used.
It's definitely not as forgiving as an sa200. I've got a 68 that welds like a dream, but it's too costly to run all day every day.

It does long arc far more than my shorthood, but that can be a blessing and a curse . When I pull off on the bottom of the pipe with the Lincoln the arc breaks away clean; the Miller want to keep burning resulting in some marks where the arc leaves marks on the pipe. To an inspector these can look like arc burns. I've been bit by that a time or two over the last couple years.

try running the bead with the D setting it works best for me

I've got a 97 sa-250 and a 07 vantage 300, like them both but the new vantage has some advantages it is a lot more  quiet, it has plenty of ac power and it will smoke a lo-hi rod, it welds good with 5p+ and 70+ but not quite as good as the the old sa-250
Parent - - By rig welder6 (**) Date 08-09-2009 03:11
all i hear about the dis-vantage is that its so good and it has a duetz or whatever, its still a fuel guzzler and loud and expensive i'll take my pro 300 cheaper better fuel econ, and quiet as can be oh ya i can run chop saw, grinder, lights, a dynasty 200 and weld 5/32 all day long.

I have a Vantage 300 and I wouldn't trade it for any other machine. 2400 hours on it, most of my driving is on service roads and still have the original computer. I fill up once a week (15 gallon tank) work ten hours a day, 60 hours at above 5000 feet elevation. 90% of my welds are xray, have not busted one since I bought the machine. Have jump started many sa200 machines at 20-30 below in Wyoming. Haven't tried the wirefeed setting yet, but the touch start tig setting is awesome. Can run a plasma cutter, while welding with 5/32 LH, haven't tried 3/16 yet. I use the 240 volt output (150 amps) weekly to charge solar batteries.
I have welded with a sa200 gas, 200D, 300D, Miller 600, Miller XMT, which is a great machine for the shop.
I have not tried the Miller Pipepro yet, maybe it is a great machine. (I did have brother-in-law welders that used them, both pipepro and the 200, but didn't see a huge difference in speed or quality.)
This machine does what I need it to do.
What bothers me is there's a lot of welders that get stuck with the mind set that a certain machine is the only machine that will do it all and there's no other machine out there that even compares.

My vantage has a kubota and it is very quiet, i can run three hard days on a tank. Oh I also have 11,000 watts of ac power.
