No not the yellow garden squash the smart kind ?  Something tells me we won't be seeing any used salvageable parts for these cars for sale ever.

Health care efficiency in action folks!!! :( :( :(

Be relentless with your elected officials who seem to think that they should not be treated in the manner they seem to have earned lately!!! ;) Let them be reminded that they work for us and not the other way around!!! POWER TO THE PEOPLE!!! :) :) :)

Respectfully,
Henry

Gee, that makes my Honda seem safe by comparison.

Any1 see impact skids from the black dump truck?
Looks like that car cushioned the blow good..........I should strap one of those cars to the front of my truck , better than an air bag.
Cheaper to replace too.

The wheel on the squished car is different from the wheel in the "smart car"
Parent - - By Mikeqc1 (****) Date 08-12-2009 23:36

The wheel on my 07 Ford is different than a 05 Ford.
Parent - - By Justin O (**) Date 08-13-2009 02:31
ones a 5 lug ones a 3 lug
Parent - - By FixaLinc (****) Date 08-13-2009 04:43
Yep looks like a Chevy wheel off pickup, suburban or tahoe from 90s hmmm.  I wasn't there someone just sent me the pics.  Think a smart car would be smashed even smaller too.  Take jaws of life to a Yugo sometime to put a third door in it and there just isn't much there to cut up to begin with let alone when you get done.

Well with cash for clunkers, they make us drive these midgets , less survivors from accidents , healthcare savings, its all balanced.

Well that gives new meaning too "compact."
Parent - By Mikeqc1 (****) Date 08-16-2009 02:38
never too small
Parent - - By uphill (***) Date 08-16-2009 13:29
Check out the 5 lug smart car crash, looks to be the same wheel?
Parent - By ssbn727 (*****) Date 08-16-2009 19:43
Yeah but, it's a different vehicle than a "Smart Car." ;)

Henry

Pop goes the weasel, damn I would rather have a 14 mpg evil pickup.
Parent - - By DaveBoyer (*****) Date 08-17-2009 02:25
What I find strange is that many who wolud not buy one of these "unsafe" small cars will ride a motorcycle.
Parent - - By jrw159 (*****) Date 08-17-2009 15:02
Motorcycle vs. compact car. OUCH!!

Parent - - By bozaktwo1 (***) Date 08-17-2009 17:02
Ouch is right.  Then again, the type of bike there tells you most of what you need to know.  Young, too fast, immortal...oops.  I have lost too many friends like this, every one of them on a sport bike.  I'm not saying I'm any better; but I am damned careful and somewhat paranoid on the road.  And I have over 100,000 miles shiny side up.  Someday it may well be my turn.

I will still take my motorcycle on a dry day.  The 45 mpg average is good for my wallet.
Parent - - By uphill (***) Date 08-18-2009 15:43
Only two kinds of motorcycle riders= been down and going down(someday).
Parent - By jrw159 (*****) Date 08-18-2009 15:50
LOL, I would like to say I have never wiped out on a motorcycle but I rode dirt bikes for too long and did lay over a street bike once. Nothing major on the street bike but had some pretty mean ones on the motocross tracks and out in the country.

This was a ford escape not a smart car. http://www.snopes.com/photos/accident/smallcar.asp
Parent - - By FixaLinc (****) Date 08-17-2009 20:20
Crushed small car dead victims same results no matter what kind or brand.  :(
Parent - - By OBEWAN (***) Date 08-17-2009 20:25
Yes, but the real question is what defines small?

I don't know of anything smaller than a Smart Car, and I think that was the point of the post.

As I said, this makes my "small" Honda seem safe by comparison.  I mean, my Civic is an SUV compared to that car that got crushed.
Parent - By FixaLinc (****) Date 08-17-2009 20:36
Yep to me the smart car looks more like a highway legal golf cart or ATV about same size and we know the track record for accidents with ATVs high speed or not.  See lots of those little imported pickup trucks here but they are not legal to license on highways here but many are using them around their farms, dairies and feedyards and occasionally you need one taking a short jaunt down a farm market highway illegally.  Like ATVs they aren't suppose to be on there.
Parent - By ctacker (****) Date 08-18-2009 00:45
I think the fiat Spider is one of the smallest also.
