Does anyone know if AWS has a SWPS for metal core wire? Is the use of metal core wire still considered GMAW? I don't have my code book with me to look it up and was asked about this. Thanks for any info.

Here is a listing of all the available SWPS
https://www.awspubs.com/advanced_search_result.php?keywords=SWPS&osCsid=135a1b13e8032fc64d47a30674819f89&x=32&y=11

If your doing standard production work why not consider a Prequalified WPS..  As far as D1.1 2008 goes, MCAW electrodes are still considered GMAW process.. See table 3.1

Thank You. I wasn't sure if Metal Core was considered a process all to its own or if it was still considered GMAW

There was a time when it was considered FCAW but then it got moved to GMAW.

Now it is being moved back to the specification for FCAW electrodes from what I was told.

I went and asked.

I'm told that the MC electrodes will be moved from the GMAW back to the FCAW AWS A5 books, BUT that they will still be considered GMAW.  Not sure how they'll pull that off.
