Dear All

I like your comment about API 1104 - 7.7  Cleaning Between Beads, I not understand definition of Heavy Glass, because I from Peru.
I like example about Heavy Glass.

Thanks.

Dayanara-

I believe this refers to the glass-like deposits that sometimes can form on welds.  Given the context of 7.7 (cleaning), I can't see any other meaning.  I have seen this on many GMAW welds, a semiautomatic process (and 7.7 is refering to semi automatic/mechanized welding).

Maybe one of the good people on the forum can post up some pictures of examples, as I have none.

Hello DAYANARA, I believe this might help to somewhat explain about the "glass" that you had questions about. Best regards, Allan

EDIT: I couldn't attach the PDF it was too large so I'll try a link.  http://www.scsprocess.net/library.data_/Sept07SCSUPDATE-Hi-Res.pdf

And just to add to Allan's excellent example of what is meant when the term "Glass" is used to describe silicon formations of varying sizes, shape and lengths on the the weld deposits... I would like to include this link for anyone to have an understanding about just what the SCS process (Smooth Clean Surface) is in relation to steelmaking:

http://www.scsprocess.com/

http://www.scsprocess.com/scsprocess/howscsworks.html

Also, if anyone wants to review some in depth info on SCS, here's some more links:

http://www.scsprocess.com/resources/infodownloads.html

http://www.scsprocess.com/resources/videos.html

Finally, here's a link which briefly describes some disadvantages and limitations of SCS as well as another method of steelmaking surface prep technology that overcomes some of the mentioned limitations:

Enjoy the read! ;)

Respectfully,
Henry

Hello Henry, I hadn't even heard of this before looking for some examples of "glass" on the net. Interesting stuff, thanks for including those links. Best regards, Allan

You are very "weldcome" Allan!!! ;)
Glad to be of service! :) Btw, now that you mentioned it, I think I'll post these links in the Metallurgy section also... Always a pleasure Allan! :) :) :)
