Fine, Henry! We'll be able to put up our personal library with all of the references you're giving us on your postings!
Did you know that case hardening of steel was invented by the ancient Romans? They used it to harden their spades, which they called "gladium".
In the middle of a battle the spades of their enemies were already worn, whereas Roman gladia (plural of gladium) were still in good condition.

Two more books that I have found to be the most basic but most definative and best intro to structural steel design and strength, from my old Purdue days many moons ago, a joy to read by all in the structural steel business and a must by any CWI,,,,,,,

Why Buildings Stand Up,  by Mario Salvadori,  W.W. Norton Publ.,  ISBN 0-393-30676-3 ,  1980, 1990
