Hello all!

Does anyone out there know of any welding codes/standards that addresses qualifying welding procedures for hardfacing on sheaves or pulleys? I would like to be able to use an industry accepted standard to qualify a hardfacing procedure, but I am having trouble finding a standard to work from.

At a minimum, I think that macro's and hardness testing would be sufficient to demonstrate a sound weld... does anyone have any suggestions/advice?

Thanks in advance,
Sean

AWS B2.1-2000, Specification for Welding Procedure and Performance Qualification, Section 2.10 addresses hardfacing procedure qualification. This is a general specification that is not intended for any specific application and would be a good choice for your application.

Of course it is designed for a different type of equipment, but ASME B&PV Code Section IX addresses hardfacing welder and procedure qualification. If you used it outside of its intended scope, (ie not boilers and pressure vessels) you certanly wouldn't be the first. AWS also publishes "The Practical Reference Guide to Hardfacing". I don't know if any of their other standards cover this, such as the specificaiton on earthmoving/construction equipment, or industial mill cranes, etc.
