I have four Hobart Orbitig 300's. They were custom built to suit our needs. One of them is now giving us problems, it looks as though the arc starter is staying on locking up our computer program.
The question I have is this: How does an arc starter fail? Is it possible for the arc starter to stay on after the arc is struck? I realize it could be a software issue, but I want to review all avenues before I go ripping into something.

When you say "arc starter" do you mean high frequency arc starting?

No, this is an older amperage style.

We used to have an orbital tig welder that used HF arc initiation. During this arc initiation cycle it "switched" the computer off to shield it from the dammaging effects of the electromagnetic radiation. I am not sure if your arc starting mechanism could possibly corrupt the workings of the computer if there is something "odd" happening during this cycle.

Your supplier should be able to answer this question.
