I had the great honor of sitting through a week long Design of Welding Seminar with Dr. Blodgett and have known him for many years through committee activities.  He is one absolutely amazing individual to say the very least!  On top of all that, he remains ever humble which may be one of his greatest features!  A truly, truly remarkable man!

I remember seeing a display in a rock climbing shop in Colorado showing the progression of rock climbing anchors and  safety supports. Changing the layout of pieces cut from rolled stock changes the ability of the anchors to support stresses in different directions. The change in stamping or cuts of the pieces from the base metal changes the suseptabilty to fracture based on applied forces.
Do Any of the gurus onsite have experience with coupons taken at an angle other than parallel or perpendicular to rolling direction?
