Is there a code requirement for storing stainless electrodes in an oven?

I have seen 316L and other SS side by side with Lo-Hi electrodes in electrode storage ovens, but my experience with SS is limited.

If there is a code requirement, what is the code?

Thanks,

ziggy

You will get the best answer from the electrode companyas many codes refers to their specifications.

AWS D1.6 requires the stainless SMAW electrode to be stored in a holding oven like those used with low hydrogen type carbon steel covered electrodes.

The covering used for the EXXX-15 electrode is similar to that used for E7018, i.e., they use a limestone based flux covering that tends to be hygroscopic.

I would not like to see carbon steel covered electrodes stored with stainless steel electrodes due to the probability there will be a mix-up sooner or later when the welder draws the electrode from the oven.
