Hey all, first off this is a terrific site! I've learned quite a bit so far just browsing about, the combined knowledge here is staggering. Anyways, onwards...

So I'm taking my B level (Our 2nd year up here, a 4 month course focusing on pipe) and we're just starting our 5G with 1/8 6010 down root and hot pass, then 3/32 or 1/8 7018 up. I'm getting it but I'm just wondering what most of you prefer for a fitup? I've been running 60 degrees included with just a smidge under 1/16 gap and land and about 90A for the root. I've been just dragging it down the side at about 90 degrees to the pipe with a good push in while twisting to prevent fingernailing with decent results. So what technique and angle/fit would you guys prefer or do you teach your students? Thanks.

I use 3/32 gap with 3/32 land and 3/32 filler for my 6010 root. 60 ish amps. Grind it down.
We have to weld our pipe up, not down at my place of work.
Then I run my hot pass with 6010 and a U or C weave. Lightly grind it down again.
Then I go to my 7018 fill and cap. 3/32 and 80-85 ish amps.
