We have a Miller Big 40 welder on one of our yard rigs that will not weld, no elect. at the lead.  Welded fine the day before. Generator side works fine.  Anyone have any ideas or tricks that might fix the problem before I send it to the shop?  Any help would be appreciated.

Hello OxbowCS, I had a similar thing happen with my Big 40. Took the cowlings off to inspect the entire machine and noticed an adjustable resistor on the backside of the control panel near the top that had a band corroded and broken. This "resistor" was about 2 1/2" long or so and had a metal band with a wire attached to it that could be slid along the length of the unit to vary the resistance. Once I replaced this band it welded fine. Don't know if this could be it, but worth a look. I'm sorry I don't have a more technical description to give you on this. Best regards, Allan
