Up Topic Welding Industry / Technical Discussions / allowable splices in length

Dear all,

Is it allowable to make a specified length I-profile with welding 2 or more pieces with shorter length?
How much is minimum distance between 2 splices in one I-section profile?
Is there any code or standard about that?

Best regards

You need to ask the E.O.R. about that.
It will depend on the E.O.R. and the place the I-profile fits in the project.
I imagine there will need to be a repair procedure written to satisfy the E.O.R.
Hope this helps more than hurts.
Good Luck

check your job specs and applicable code.

generally the spec's say that you are not allowed to make any splices in the material unless you have their approval.  Iv'e seen one splice done, but never two in the same piece.

You said, "Iv'e seen one splice done", ok, but based on which code or standard?
For example if you have one 10 meters length I-profile in drawing but 2x 5 meter length be available (or 8+2 meters)are you allowed to make one 10 meters length?
