Are there any 798 Welders that frequent this site? Any that are working?
Parent - - By okwelder82 (***) Date 10-26-2009 22:01
Im a 798 welder but im not working. Last time I checked I was 590 on the wheel so it will probobly be awhile. How about yourself?

How far outta work does 590 put you? Seems like about forever, but maybe things happen quicker than I realize.
Other than the fact there is a work shortage, how is 798 working for you? We, of course, have a mutual friend who was on me to join. And a friends ex girlfriend is a helper and has bugged me everytime she sees me for years now. Just never made the jump.

Our mutual friend retakes his test tomorrow. Hopefully he can calm himself down enough to get it right. He gets all worked up when he tests. I just joined 798 about a month ago Rick so I havent been out on a job yet but I think it will be a good thing once work picks up. You been working any?

It depends on how much work is going on. Right know as slow as it is 590 will take awhile. Im not much lower than you so good luck.

Been single hand almost all year. I know there is work out there, but hate to spend the cash traveling around looking and waiting for it. Getting old, though. Gotta get back to it!!
Gotta work that truck again before the year ends!!

I'm 369 on the wheel, but I'm still making lots of calls to the Contractors and Welder Foremen that are working. Trying to catch one of them at just the right time. I call all of the BA's atleast once every 2 weeks. There is alot of work scheduled to kick off between January and March, alot of it in Florida. That would be great!
Parent - - By okwelder82 (***) Date 10-27-2009 23:14
Yeah I have been doing the same thing. Like you said if you catch them at just the right time you might get a spot on a job. I have been at the training center for the past couple days brushing up on my tig so maybe I can catch a singlehand job.

If I lived a little closer to Tulsa, I'd be in there everyday. I've got a scratch rig I ran off my 300D, but it's all dusty sittin in storage. I need to drag it out I guess. How hard was it for you to get in there to practice up?
Parent - By cdd (**) Date 10-28-2009 01:45
Good to hear some 798 Brothers are on here!!!
Parent - - By okwelder82 (***) Date 10-28-2009 02:45
Well they only have like 2 tig rigs at the training center so its first come first serve, and there a quite a few guys wanting to practice tig right now since pipeline is slow. I got to use one today and Im going to get there early in the morning so I can practice again tomorrow. Lord know I need all the practice I can get on tig. Where do you live at Bulls?
Parent - By chris2698 (****) Date 10-28-2009 09:11
okwelder82, hell if they have all the pipe and fillers rods and all I'd bring my own tig rig there to use just in case there is someone else useing them. I wouldn't let anything stop me from practiceing.

I live in Woodward, OK. I'm right at 4 hrs. from the Training Center. Sounds like I'll probably be just as well off just to use my scratch rig here at the house for practice. What's up cdd? It is nice to know there are some 798er's on here.
