I just know there were big chunks of mud falling down in that first pic. No cutback or slope those days? Weren't you glad it was just a 3"?

its mission impossible to slope muskeg. once you get past the frost its a race against time to get your tie in before it fills to the top with water. very very cold water. lol. then try and get the chest waders off in -30 before you cant move.

Ahh, tricks of the trade come down from the North.  Watched an Indian drop thru some ice in the ditch at Wabasca one friggin' cold -48c day and he knew what to do. Ran straight to the header building where a catadyne heater was, stripped down to his johnny's and had his wet clothes hanging close to that heat. Pretty tough kids up that way and seen some good flu remedies too.

like to hear the flu remedies they used

"Rat root" which is a dried piece of cattail root, is placed in the mouth and chewed. Swallow the juice from the root (yech, like Buckley's) but not the root. This was given to me when I was pretty sick up there and at first was not very receptive from something being pulled from a guys pant pocket. Really it just looked like a piece of dirt, but when he told me that's what his grandfather taught him and its from "the old ways".  Well I tried it that nite and surprisingly I was quite well by the morning.

My old man swears by cayenne pepper and orange juice, drinks it every morning. He says it cures what ails ya... I don't agree but he says it works for him.

cayenne pepper?? that'll just give ya the runs, guess it'll clean ya out though

Heard about a guy who put cayenne pepper in his workboots to keep his toes warm. Burned his skin pretty bad.

Thanks for the Pics downhand! Can't say I miss working in the mud, I love working in the mountains though! Helped a few times with hot taps in muddy holes like that, that was fun!
