Dear Friends
Code - AWS D1.1  Weld Process - SMAW / FCAW / SAW
Both are Shipyards.
Is it a violation to use XYZ Manufacturer's ( our affiliate/sister company ) WPS/PQR by the same group of company? We are using the same type welding machines and consumable.
Essential Variables same as in XYX WPS/PQR. If is so where in the code I can find it?
Thanks

AWS D1.1  Clause 4.1.1.1 Qualification Responsibility.
will give you your answer I believe.
If it fits you will still need to write the wps with your company name but you can utilize the other named companies PQR to reference.
Hope this helps more than hurts

Most welding standards, with the exception of NAVSEA standards, recognize WPSs and supporting PQRs are intellectual property. Companies that are wholly owned or that are subsidiaries of the parent company can share intellectual property. Therefore they can share the welding documents. Companies that have multiple divisions are beginning to establish corporate wide welding programs for just that reason.

When Company A purchases Company B, it also becomes owner of Company B's intellectual property, thus all of Company B's welding documents become the property of Company A. The letterhead is changed to reflect the new ownership and all is good in "Welding Land.”

Best regards - Al
