Cactus, I was looking at the pics and looks like those are going to be single bevel joints, is that the reason for the backing strap? I don't mean to ask stupid questions just curious.
Parent - - By Cactusthewelder (*****) Date 11-22-2009 17:02
Yes they are single bevel. As far as the Backer strap, The State of Texas wants it. So, we get it

I used to work construction inspection for TxDot. They definitely have their own set of rules.
Parent - - By Rig Hand (***) Date 11-24-2009 03:09
What you welding them with (rod or wire-type) ??? Just curious.
Thats a lot of welding you got to do. Single bevels will cut down on the metal, but still a lot. Good luck.

The ones you see in the picture are being welded with 7018

Do they follow the rule that if anyone falls in the water, he buys a fifth of whisky for each member of the crew?
Parent - - By Cactusthewelder (*****) Date 11-26-2009 05:51
They fall in the water because they DRANK a fifth of whiskey
Parent - - By Rig Hand (***) Date 11-26-2009 15:27
