Is that the zolotan paint you were talking about in an earlier post? sure is slick.
Parent - - By Cactusthewelder (*****) Date 11-20-2009 01:28
Yes it is ZOLOTAN. I like this color better so I had the White repainted. It WILL NOT scratch or chip
Parent - By ronnie taylor (**) Date 11-20-2009 01:37
You know okwelder82 is going to gig you for that running light... LOL :)
Parent - - By tighand430 (***) Date 11-29-2009 19:57
Hey Cactus, can ya give a lil more info on this zolotan paint? I've been lookin at usin dupont imron for a bed I'm lookin at but never hear of the zolotan stuff. It's a slick lookin rig too.
Parent - - By Cactusthewelder (*****) Date 11-29-2009 20:06
Thanks. Call 903-567-1090. Talk to Shawn. That stuff is GREAT. It will not scratch. I am told that after it sets up for the 7 days that you can pour battery acid on it and it will not hurt it. Shawn is the painter. He also does complete trucks. He is going to do my Dodge when we get a break. I am having him do the whole truck, bed , bumpers, nerf bars and all with this stuff. The cost for the complete truck is only 1500. It goes on quick and it is dry in 20 minutes. Shawn can tell you all you want to know.
Parent - By tighand430 (***) Date 11-29-2009 20:37
Thanks Cactus. I'd love to get my whole truck painted but aint got the money for all that just yet. Maybe I can piss some random barfly off enuff that she'll key the whole damn thing up so insurance will pay for it! Just gonna have to make sure that she does the job right the first time since good help is so hard to find nowdays.

Parent - - By okwelder82 (***) Date 11-21-2009 14:04
Is your truck a 2 wheel drive cactus?
Parent - - By Cactusthewelder (*****) Date 11-21-2009 14:29
The one in the Picture is but the other 3 are 4 wheel drive
Parent - - By okwelder82 (***) Date 11-21-2009 14:37
So you have 4 rig trucks?
Parent - - By Cactusthewelder (*****) Date 11-21-2009 14:44
Yes I do
Parent - - By okwelder82 (***) Date 11-21-2009 18:22
If you dont mind me asking why would you buy a 2 wheel drive truck to use as a welding rig?
Parent - - By Cactusthewelder (*****) Date 11-21-2009 20:05
Because I dont do alot of welding in that truck. I bought this Truck to haul Clients around. I would Rather drive a truck than my Mercedes. It has all of the options offered by Ford except the King Ranch Package. Another reason is that I am not paid enough to get in the Mud and need 4 wheel drive. Last but not least, Because I wanted to. Where is it written that a Rig has to be 4 wheel drive ?
Parent - - By weaver (***) Date 11-21-2009 20:29
well put about the mud..  I actually charge more when the enviroment is not clean.  Why get freakin muddy if you dont have to.. props to you sir...  I also have a 08 f-350 diesel , is your diesel? and don't you love the power!
Parent - By Cactusthewelder (*****) Date 11-21-2009 20:56
Mine is a 09 6.4 Twin Turbo,   PLENTY OF POWER
Parent - - By jrw159 (*****) Date 11-21-2009 20:42
"Where is it written that a Rig has to be 4 wheel drive ?"

Not in every case but in some it is in the job specs. I have been on some jobs where they will not let you through the gate to get to the ROW unless you have 4X4 and proof of current insurance. Grades are so steep and conditions severe enough that they have enough to do getting 4X4's with experianced drivers out and do not have time to be pulling out 2 wheel drive vehicles. But like you say, these jobs pay better than most. LOL

It is nice looking. I take it this is your personal ride then?

jrw159 :-)
Parent - - By Cactusthewelder (*****) Date 11-21-2009 20:49
Well I still say that the Jobs that pay better to have a 4 wheel drive STILL would not pay me enough to need it. And as far as Job Specs, Most of the time I am the one making the specs. So, it all works out
Parent - - By jrw159 (*****) Date 11-21-2009 21:08
Interesting. So did you get that changed from 1/8 electrode yet? :-)
Parent - - By Cactusthewelder (*****) Date 11-21-2009 21:47
I did
Parent - By jrw159 (*****) Date 11-21-2009 22:07
Atta boy! :-)
Parent - - By Sharp Tungsten (**) Date 11-21-2009 21:47
Very sharp truck but I think shad posted a picture for you of a black ford that was a very slick rig.
Parent - - By Cactusthewelder (*****) Date 11-21-2009 21:53
The one Shad posted is my Black Dodge. Thank you
Parent - - By rick harnish (***) Date 11-22-2009 00:40
That Dodge would be one of the four he is speaking of. He is MUCH better off now, even without a transfer case. His mention of the Scorpion ensures me Cactus has seen the light.
Cactus, if you find yourself stuck, just kick back enjoying the luxurious interior of the King of trucks. Then call me, and I will drag it to firm turf for a nominal fee!!! ;)
Parent - - By Cactusthewelder (*****) Date 11-22-2009 00:47 Edited 11-22-2009 00:50
If I get stuck I will just call my son to bring me my Dodge ! Rick, You know me as well as anyone in here. How likely is it for ME to NEED 4 wheel drive ? Think they would pay me what I am used to making ?
Parent - By rick harnish (***) Date 11-22-2009 01:08 Edited 11-22-2009 01:13
I honestly dont understand why you dont just take the Mercedes. Oh yeah, TRUCKS KICK A**!!!!!
Man, when I think about what you were paying us, ( THANK YOU, DO IT AGAIN! ), and how many people were on the payroll, and my personally estimated profit of yours on every hour, I understand why you give the pipeliners hell.
Us other folks still need to get to where you just pointed. Thus the 4x.
Parent - By FixaLinc (****) Date 11-22-2009 01:13
That's right keep it out of the mud.  I remember you telling me it wasn't going to get dirty when you got it lol.  Truck does looks good though !
Parent - - By FixaLinc (****) Date 11-22-2009 00:54

Parent - - By rick harnish (***) Date 11-22-2009 01:15
Get that Scorpion!!
Parent - - By Cactusthewelder (*****) Date 11-22-2009 01:21
My son is a Master Ford Tech. He has seen the Scorpion and Been to school for it. He says it is the Baddest Engine that Ford has EVER built for a truck
Parent - - By rick harnish (***) Date 11-22-2009 01:27
NO DOUBT IN MY MIND!!!!!  I would still wait on the second production, though.
Parent - - By Cactusthewelder (*****) Date 11-22-2009 01:29
I never keep one over a year anyway
Parent - - By rick harnish (***) Date 11-22-2009 01:31
Good point. Then you can tell me about it!!
Parent - - By Cactusthewelder (*****) Date 11-22-2009 01:34
I have had an 07 an 08 and a 09 in the last 14 months
Parent - - By okwelder82 (***) Date 11-22-2009 01:43
Have you chipped  your 6.4 yet? I am a Dodge/Cummins man but they said in Diesel Power Mag that the 6.4 could dyno almost 600hp with just a chip/programmer,cold air intake and exhaust. Thats pretty impressive.
Parent - By rick harnish (***) Date 11-22-2009 01:45
YEAH, WHAT I SAID!!
Parent - By Cactusthewelder (*****) Date 11-22-2009 01:59
I dont chip any of my trucks. They will all pull my Fifth Wheel ( A REALY BIG ONE ) at 80 mph. UPHILL. why do I need more ? Plus I hate the smoke
