Clause 1 states that "The use of a particular method of qualification is often a requirement of an application standard."
Can someone give me an example of an application standard (I fixin to purchase a few more EN standards) and perhaps tie that into why a particular method would be chosen.

js55,
If I were you, I would purchase EN 13480 1-6, or atleast get section 4 and 5. EN 13480 is related to industrial pipework.
You should also get EN 1011-1, EN 1011-2 and 15614-1, the 1011 1-2 will in particular catch your interest I think.

Keep in mind that the EN standards is not made as easy as ASME, we often needs to look at 15+ standards for a particular job.
As an example, all the EN NDT methods has its own standard, both for application and for criterias (LOOL) and on top of that there is a few "general rules" standards for NDT :)

3.2

EDIT: Almost forgot: EN 15607 describes several ways to qualify a procedure, look at table 2.
EN 13480, EN 12952 which is the standards for industrial piping and fabrication of boilers might not accept qualifications based on "previous welding experience"

I dont know how much hair you have left, but you will for sure lose some if you try to fully understand the EN philosophy :)

Thanks for the info.
I am in the process of acquiring as many of the EN standards as I feel are necessary to get us going. Of course the reference sections of each seems to lead to more available and needed. Reminds me alot of API. I currently have 7 of them, some of which you mentioned and about 8 more on order.
And I keep my hair so short nobody will ever notice.   Been losing it for awhile.  :)
