It appears to be a between mid 70s and mid 80s. You can tell the exact year using the code and serial numbers off of the machine. As far as the price, he has it listed for 2100 which isnt too bad if the machine is in good order.

Take some 3/16" 7018 with you . weld on a piece of
scrap metal. have someone watch the oil pressure gauge
how far down does it drop??  Listen for any engine noises
does machine tend to struggle under the heavy load?
Make sure machine revs up quickly when striking an arc.

Sorry but I would say that is a 67 or 68 SA 200 redface. If it runs and weld good it is worth that but I would offer him 500 less to start. Those redfaces is some of the best 200's ever made. It will have a R-57 vaccum idler hopefully it idles up on it's on. If the owner high idles it by pinning it  to get it to weld thats not a big deal. Just make sure it welds good and smooth.  Also have him email you the serial number, you can use that to get the exact year.

What are you going to be doing with a 200? It won't run dual shield the way we do it. You plan on running the balls out of it? Did your 300 die on you?

IT RUNS THE PISS OUT OF DEUL SHEILD UP TO ABOUT 32 VOLTS, AND YES CV.  WHICH IS PLENTY FOR EVERYTHING EXCEPT RELINES. AND SENCE I HAVENT SEEN A RELINE IN ABOUT A YEAR I THINK ITS A SMART MOVE.

Print these serial number charts off and then you can figure out the year from that.  You can tell if original or if someone has switched parts around if the code number on the tag and on side of the generator barrel by the starter side doesn't match up.  Code number is also stamped into the generator barrel.
