I've got 1/8"-1/4" base metal that is painted rusty and brittle, will be patching with up to 3/8" plate. Trailers pulled off road by DOT. Was going to go with all purpose 211 at .068 diameter. Starting to lean toward 311 5/64" diameter. Wont be welding anything over 1/2", fillet welds only. Appearance is not a factor, but I do like 211 characteristics. Any suggestions or better alternative to the two that I might be missing. I might go with both and build my own preference. Thanks, Jeff

One of my reasons for the post was also to find out if I could do multiple passes with 311. Maybe not for this job, but for future reference. Thanks again.

I do know that lincoln does not recommend NR-211 for seismic applications... barreling down a bumpy road at 75 mph could be considered seismic... looks like 311 is a flat or horz. only

jancanfora,
As Duke said this could be considered seismic. My local Lincoln rep recommended NR-232 for seismic welding. It welds OK. Looks OK. I'm spoiled from using NS-3M so much but that's for F/H positions.
