Process Route: Introduction

This module introduces the production stages and process route through an integrated steelworks, from ironmaking and steelmaking through to casting and primary forming.

After an overview of the steelmaking process route, you start your tour by flying over an integrated steelworks. Your flight starts at the arrival of raw materials and follows the process route through the various stages of production. You are then free to walk around the whole site and explore each of the main production units, looking at the different processing steps in more detail and watching the steel being made.

In subsequent modules you can run simulations and actually operate many of these processes in your own Virtual Steelworks.
Learning Outcomes for this Section

After completing this section, you should be able to:

    * List and explain the key production stages in an integrated steelworks
    * Identify the plant items used for each of the production stages
    * Describe the order in which these process steps are carried out
    * Identify the main raw materials used to produce steel
    * Identify the input and output materials at each process stage
    * Explain the differences between the BOS and EAF steelmaking processes

Don't forget to click the "next" button when finished digesting each subsequent page... ENJOY!!! :) :) :)
