D1.1 Pipe Weld Pre-Qualified or not??

Gentlemen,
I need some help, I've got myself all bound up over this weld. I am trying to confirm if it's pre-qualified per section 3 of D1.1 or if Ihave to qualify it per section 4.

It's a 2" pipe full penetration welded to a 6" pipe as a "Tee"
Remember this is D1.1 building code.

3.13.4 Tubular T,K,and Y connections talks about the pre-qual requirements of CJP welds welded from one side.
But 3.13.3 discusses there are no pre-qualified joint details for CJP groove welds made in butt joints made from one side w/ out backing.

I'm confused, one papagraph says I can (3.13.4) the other says I can't (3.13.3).
I don't work w/ pipe and TKY stuff very often, once every 6 years it seems like.

What angle is your branch to the main member? Your picture looks like 90°

Yup, coming in at 90 degrees.
A 2" pipe into a 6" pipe. We should be able to rotate the assembly.

It is an open root groove weld, so to the best of my recollection it is not prequalified.

You can weld it per AWS D1.1, but only after you have qualified it by testing and in the bargin the welder that welds the test piece is qualified within the limits of the essential variables of welder perfomance qualification.

I'll ask to make it a partial pen and hope it get's appoved.

Any classes or seminars on Tee, K and Y connections?? That is something that would really help.
