Up Topic Sections / Section 39: Colorado / Welding the Rockies Symposium
- - By James Corbin (**) Date 02-19-2010 19:52
Who said there is no free lunch?
The American Welding Society of Colorado and the Colorado School of Mines will do one better.

The Colorado Section 039 of the American Welding Society and the Center for Welding Joining and Coating Research at Colorado School of Mines invite you to attend our Spring Symposium, March 11th and 12th at Colorado School Mines.

Welding the Rockies

When we started lining up the speakers and topics we were going to charge $200.00 for both days. As we found our speakers and topics we all said that a $200.00 fee was way low. Just to hear one of the speakers talk on their topic could and would cost you or your company a least twice that amount.
We are not only having one great speaker, we are having 15 to 20 speakers all leaders in their industry and field sought out for the information they have.
So what should we charge for this outstanding symposium, which would be worth two to five time that amount?
Given the state of the economy, and because it's our inaugural event, we want to make this special event available to everyone.

How about free, yes I did say FREE Welding Symposium!

Speakers at this symposium will cover a broad range of topics of interest to those in the welding industry. Construction trades, builders, and designers. Welding students, engineers and engineering students,
The sessions will run from 8:00 to 5:00 each day with a break for lunch.

Here is a partial list of planned presentations:

Requirements for modern structural weld design practice

A look at welder apprenticeship programs in Colorado

Pipe welding - a welder's perspective

The metallurgy of welding for the rest of us welders

What gas mix is right for you?

CWIs and IBC Section 1704, AISC Code of Standard Practice and AWS D1.1

CWIs - Training, Responsibilities, and Opportunities

NDT using multi-sensor Ultrasonic

The Dawn of Intelligent Welding systems -Advanced welding systems - making sense of the welding process

Learning to Weld Using Virtual Reality

What it takes to run a top notch welding school in this era

Robot Welding, building the future - This is Big!

News from National - an update from the AWS

Gas torch safety, what you need to know

Welding fume health and safety

Advanced Power Sources - Ushering in a New Era in Welding

Welding to the AWS Code

Rolling pipe up on a spool!

Residual Stress, Preheat and D1.1

Welding in the Medical Devices Industry

Howdy Folks,

This is to confirm your registration for the Welding The Rockies Symposium.
Details of the presentations and speakers are provide below.

Things will kick off next Thursday morning at 8:00 in Petroleum Hall in the Green Center at Colorado School of Mines.

Please try to arrive before 8:00AM, we'll have a welcoming address and coffee to get you going (we'll be open at 7:30).
Parking near campus is challenging and getting to CSM early will help you find a spot to park. You will need a parking permit to park in any of the visitor lots. Look at this map to see its location.  There are a few lots for visitor parking and the Campus Parking Office is recommending Lot J.
https://www.mines.edu/UserFiles/File/Visitor_Map.pdf
If you can car pool or take public transportation that will be very helpful.
More information about the parking permit is given at the end of this email.

We want you to be comfortable - dress is casual
Lunch is on your own,
CSM has a cafeteria and a food court and there are at least a dozen restaurants within walking distance from the meeting.
We intentionally scheduled the presentations so you won't be trying to get lunch when everyone else is.

If you have questions, email me at jsteele@mines.edu, or call 303-273-3663.

Have a great week and we'll see you on Thursday!
