Folks

I am quoting a large weldment constructed of all A514-T-1, ranging in thickness from .500" to 6". I received the WPS from the customer which we will follow. It specs a 225deg F min preheat. My question is, this is a large weldment with allot of content, and I dont want to grossly under-estimate the preheat time. Does anyone have any methodology or formulae that work for ball parking time for this ?

Thanks everyone

Not sure of your requirement but EN 1011-2, particularly for pre heat calculation

Good links provided.  One other suggestion to think about, it may be worth considering costing in an induction preheat / PWHT system into the job.  They're a bit pricey, the last one I bought a few years back was about $35,000 for a turn-key model (Miller unit) but they can very quickly pay for themselves by time savings!

The time of preheat can not be calculated, to many factors involved.
It can be guesstimated if you use induction equipment.

I dont suggest you follow En 1011-2 unless it is required, which I doubt it is.
