I have a question on temper vs weld strength on 2219 aluminum.  I want to conduct a study where I weld a butt joint on 2219 material with one pass and test the weld strength.  Then I want to make another sample where I have several heat inputs.  The purpose of this is to analyze how much the mechanical properties suffer after several heat inputs.  The material condition I want to test if 2219-T62, but suppliers are having a hard time finding that temper.  They do have t81 temper.  Will the temper make that big of a difference in resulting weld strength after a test like this?

Thanks

Hi Zeek!

Here's an interesting article on Al alloys 2024 & 2219 T62 that was written as a thesis:

http://etd.ohiolink.edu/send-pdf.cgi/Vasudevan%20Satish.pdf?akron1193668130

And these are some of the research projects the University of Akron conducts for major corporations and defense & aerospace industries, and organizations:

http://mechanical.uakron.edu/sridocuments/Research_Execution_and_Projects_2008.pdf

Look @ pages 74 through 79 to compare typical tensile and creep-rupture & creep properties of both 2219 T62 & T81 in this .pdf below:

http://asmcommunity.asminternational.org/content/ASM/StoreFiles/ACF507C.pdf

When I find more, I'll post them up for you to review! Enjoy!!! :) :) :)

Respectfully,
Henry
