FRIEND OF MINE IS PLANING TO BUY A SA 400 HUNDRED.I WAS WONDERING IF IT WAS A GOOD MACHINE OR IF YOU KNOW ANY THING ABOUT IT =.THANKS FOR ALL YOUR INPUTS.

Its a good machine provided it is in good working order. The downside is, He will need a 3 ton truck to haul it around in.

400 & 600 machines have 6 cylinder engines so just big & heavy.

I've got an SAF300, it weighs about 1680. That 400 is gonna be a load.

I have an SAE 400, with a 2-71 detroit, weighs about 2100#, great for gouging

They are long, heavy, they run forever, and they make well over 600 amps.
With a wire feed module you can run large wires year after year after year.
They are a clydesdale horse at gouging.
The chopper machines give you quite a bit more adjustment with the voltage sensitive wires like 203 Nickle and 232.
They are super reliable and you can rebuild them till the cows come home.
They will run stick rod forever, including the big rods. And very smoothly.
They are a bargain usually because they go pretty cheap for the capability.

We have 2 of them.. They weigh about 2600# with F245... JTMcC is right you can keep rebuilding them and they are worth their weight for gouging..... very smooth arc...
