Aw I gotcha. I wasnt meaning anything by it. Should have told him the other guys were not welders, thats why he called you! Hell its just a little O'l drilling rig. Aw the hoops they love to make a man jump through......

didnt bother me i made a good chunk i love it when the company man gets picky and wants to make his rig shine like a new tractor 90's and 45's and re routing the exhaust and then had to cut and weld on 45 degreee angled tips i got 21 hours out of em including drive time. i asked him if he wanted me to make some echo chambers for it but he said no lol

I had to do somwthing i got called to replace the mufflers and exhaust piping on the rig and the co. man wanted it done with mig. Itol him it could be done with 3/32 6011 and he said no he had welders do it with stick before and the welds broke i told him they didnt know what they were doing but he insisted on mig so i had to make do. I had to rent a generator cause mine took a dump. found out it needs brushes. I hope i get paid from that job before he calls again so i can get the brushes and get it fixed.

Tell ya what Shad,

As silly as those little 110 migs look... They work pretty nice don't they?   As long as you keep to the thin stuff.

Lawerence I've never been a fan of mig welding but once i got the heat and speed and position figured out it was nice. Ilooked like a Gypsy wagon goin down the road but i made good money that day. I figured out if you run the wire up hill it stacks in the real nice. Rnning it down look like somebody just blew their nose on it and let it run but nothing a grinder didnt fix. and another pass of wire. The hobart i borrowed is a 220 machine and i had to buy and make an extension cord to run it from the generator.

I dont see any argon mix or gauges so the tinsel strenght is still 60. Flux core right.
Parent - By raftergwelding (*****) Date 03-30-2010 12:09
yep good ol hobart brand flux core. those hobart machines burn real slow.

Cactus has the vantage i run a 200 it is seen in the pic. Maybe 1 day i'll be far enuff into super star status to get a vantage. Until then I'll keep fixing and running 200's the 200 on my truck now i paid 1800 for about 2 months ago and it is the hottest machine i have ever welded with.

Your not a real welder unless your truck looks like the beverly hillbillies going down the road. LOL

My truck use to be pretty slick, now-a-days I'm one jenn pole shy of a cluster fck.

I've got a little hobart like that in the shop and use it out on the road from time to time. I've run 6,7, 8?? 10lb spools through it and no telling how much gas, replaced the lead and gun once(had something fall on the gun...destroyed) bare wire, 4/40 with 75/25 and 30 wire works awesome. I've run aluminum through it too to do some minor fence/gate repairs. Little argon, aluminum wire and some preheat on the piece I'm welding and works great, no spool gun required. Gotta say it has sure made it's money back, excellent little machine for the price.

I borrowed that machine to do that job and it was ok. Seemed a lil slow to me i ran .030 flux core thru it with an .035 tip i have never been a big fan of wire but the co. man wanted mig. I havent used migs that much except when i was doing body work and we used a snap on machine it ran alot better but it was a bigger machine and i msure had more amperage to it. I have a chance to get a miller vs for a real decent price but dont have the money and the guy dont want to trade a 2-4 beveler for it
Parent - By Rig Hand (***) Date 04-03-2010 19:00
The Miller VS suitcases are pretty nice. I bought a 12VS last summer that I run off my vantage. I never was a big fan of wire welding, but that is starting to change. .072 innershield will flat thro it down in a hurry. Sure does beat throing hundreds of stubs in a bucket all day.
