Hi all!

I am Daniel from Spain.

I have a great curiosity...The main recommended wires to MIG-welding 7xxx aluminium alloys are the following ones: 5556, 5356, 5183 and...ยก5039!!!!. However neither "ASM Specialty Handbook: Aluminum and Aluminum alloys" nor other books or publications of reference speak about it.

How is it possible? What is the reason for that when some authors have referred to it as the most recommended when you are looking for the highest strength?

Furthermore, is strongly difficult (for me it is really impossible) to find a supplier of this material. Anybody knows one?

Any help is welcomed.

Thanks in advance

Daniel

In general, the 7000 series aluminum alloys are alloyed with zinc. The zinc improves strength, but it is a bad actor when trying to weld that family of alloys. Alloy 7075 is considered inpractical to weld with any of the fusion welding processes due to severe crack sensitivity.

Best regards - Al
