A test plate was welded with an ER11019, 1/8 electrode and the plate cracked upon bending. Assuming operator error was not the cause of the cracking. What was the cause?

travel speed was too slow, heat input was too high, plate was the wrong thickness and it was Saturday.

Rolling direction of the plate?

I don't know everything, but the weld could have been prepared by grinding across the sample instead of with the length, or it might have cooled too rapidly. What's "the rest of the story"?

I busted a test, spray transfer wire feed, many years ago and couldn't believe it. It cracked in the HAZ, along the edge of the weld and in the plate itself. I asked for a retest and it did the same thing again. After tracing where the coupon material came from we found it was the wrong material. So with new coupons and another retest I passed with flying colors.
