Good morning all,
I am currently on a fabrication project in Thailand where we are using both AWS D1.1 and AWS D1.5.
We are not building bridges, we are just using that code as it is the nearest equivalent to AS/NZS 1554 Part 5 (Welding of steel structures subject to high levels of Fatigue Loading)
Is it possible to use an AWS D1.5 PQR and write a WPS to perform AWS D1.1 work ?
Is it possible to have a PQR qualified to both AWS D1.5 and AWS D1.1 and write WPSs to suit whichever code is required.

Our main problem is we are using a lot of different materials which are not prequalified by AWS so we are having to perform full mechanical testing on a large amount of PQR coupons.

Any help greatly appreciated,
Regards,
Shane

The short answer is yes. Make sure you hit all the essential and non essential variables for both welding standards. Do all the required NDT and mechanical tests and you should be in good shape.

The design professional can use any material he wants as long as the procedure is qualified by testing.
