My 300D was delivered today. Just thought I would show it off. It's the first new one I've ever purchased. Kaye as soon as I get a little more money put back I will be sending you the 65 redface to completely redo. It will make a great backup.

Parent - - By 63 Max (***) Date 05-12-2010 23:42
It was 12,400 with tax, remote box and 125' of lead for the remote box delivered to the shop.  That was the best price I could find in my area.

Looks like a Kubota engine. Good choice. Make sure you put it on a load bank for 4 hours. Well worth the effort.
Parent - - By nevadanick (**) Date 05-14-2010 15:15
How does putting a new welder on load bank help it ?  How many amps do you load it to ?  I imagine you set the welder to its maximum ?

I just think lincoln would have it dialed when it came out of the factory.
Parent - - By Regmanager (**) Date 05-14-2010 16:57
The load bank sets the rings so it doesnt wet stack. Set the load bank at 225-250 amps and let it run.
All deisel welders should be puy on a load bank before you use them in the field. Work it hard and work
it long and it will last you a long time. You are gonna like that machine. Joe

Huh, whats wet stacking ?  Im an equipment mechanic and never heard the term.
Parent - - By aevald (*****) Date 05-14-2010 17:58
Hello Nick, I believe the short answer is that it is another term for not allowing the rings to seat and thus allowing oil to bypass and "wet" the exhaust stack as well as burning oil and other associated issues. Best regards, Allan

Thanks for the reply,  I can understand that

Nick, I think us mechanics would call that slobbering in the diesel world.
Parent - By nevadanick (**) Date 05-21-2010 17:39
I see, I guess Im just surprised kubota doesnt break them in if they are doing that when still "new".   Most diesels wont do that unless they are worn out.
Parent - - By 63 Max (***) Date 05-14-2010 20:11
We did just that. The shop I got it from told me the same thing. Then he said run it as hard as I can for the first week or 2. Then change the oil and it will last me a long time with no problems. I hope so for as much as these things cost.

That seems like a dang good price for that machine, a buddy of mine bought one 2 years ago and gave like 13,000 for that one

Allan is correct. Idling the machine for long periods of time or light use before the rings are seated causes a layer of varnish to build on the cylinder walls. Oil slips between the walls and rings and cause oil to come out of the exhaust. Sometimes its a b@tch to correct.

I had one in here that was so bad I thought it had a broken ring. It killed every bug within a 100 yard area it smoked so bad. But after working it hard for awhile it finally cleared up. Haven't seen it again, so I guess it worked.

I have heard of dusting Bon Ami into the air intake to force ring seating on an engine that wet stacks. I also have heard that one of the engine manufacturers sold "break in powder" a fine abrasive for the same purpose.

To Me, this sounds like a drastic last resort. Have You done/heard of this?

Hello Dave, I have also heard of the "Bon Ami" method, it was something that one of the older mechanics that I worked with many years ago would employ on trade-in tractors to help with smoking and/or low-compression issues. I do not believe I would do this to anything that was new or newer, but that's just my own personal opinion and not based on any supporting documentation to say whether it was detrimental or not. Best regards, Allan

No reason to do all that. Just load bank it once and you are done with it.
- By Dualie (***) Date 05-19-2010 06:14
wet stacking is a bad deal.   Carbon arc near capacity will help, on tractors we used to mount up the brush hog and back them into the pond.   Its amazing the load you can put on a tractor with that little mower and some water.

If all else failed they got the pumice and the auction.
