Hotel/Motel Scam
(This one is so simple it is shocking!)

You arrive at your hotel and check in at the front desk.  When checking in, you give the front desk your credit card to cover all the charges to your room.  You get to your room and settle in.

Someone calls the front desk and asks for Room 620 - which happens to be your room.

Your phone rings in your room.  You answer and the person on the other end says, "This is the front desk. I'm so sorry to have to bother you, but when checking in, we came across a problem with your charge card information.  We can clear this up if you can re-read me your credit card number."

You do as he says - after all, you just gave it to him when you checked in and thought nothing of it then.
The person repeats the numbers back to you and continues, "Thank you.  Now will you please verify the last 3 digit numbers on the reverse side of your charge card?"
You do this, as well, knowing that you are talking to the hotel desk clerk.  And when he asks you to confirm your home address, you do so.

You have given this person your information to clear up any problems, not suspecting anything wrong, since the call seems to have come from the front desk.
Actually, it is a scam by someone calling from outside the hotel.

Here's their scam:  they ask for a random room number.  When
someone answers, they begin their script to gain the infomation they need.  Sounding so professional, the guest is sure he is talking to the front desk and complies.
If you ever encounter this situation on a trip or vacation, tell the caller that you will come down to the front desk to clear up any problems.

DO NOT GIVE OUT PERSONAL INFORMATION OVER THE PHONE.

If the front desk knows nothing about the phone call, inform the manager of the hotel that someone called acting like a front desk employee to scam you for your credit card information  and ask him to call the police.

This was sent by someone who has been duped........and is still trying to clear up the mess!

P.S. Please help spread the word by forwarding this email to everyone you know.  Who knows, you might just help someone avoid a nasty experience.

Respectfully,
Henry
