We have recently encountered the occurrence of a "strongly magnetized" non-ferrous (i.e. copper-nickel) alloy. Has anyone else ever encountered such a material? If so, what were your results for this material (i.e. was there an investigation, research or conclusions, if any pertaining its possible causes)?

Nickel is actually a magnetic marterial, although not as strong as iron, so no surprise that a nickel containing alloy has become magnetized. Possible cause? It has been within the activity of a magnetic field for a period of time.

Giovanni,

Mahalo for your most expedient reply.

Ever heard of an AlNiCo magnet.  Nickel and cobalt alloys can be strongly magnetic.

I was always curious about the aluminum in the AlNiCo magnets. Is the Al just a weight reduction and "binding agent"? Or does it's content actually improve the magnetic abilities?
