Passes per Layer ??? (with respect to last layer) in Groove Weld.
ASME Section II part C - SFA 5.1/5.1M & SFA 5.5/5.5M says the passes per layer shall be 2 for all the layers of Groove weld.
But while doing actual welding, we are experiencing some problems like weaving to more width and slag inclusions in the last layer.
If we do three passes in the last layer, the problem can be avoided.
Is it acceptable to do three passes in the last layer???

Thanks & Regards,

nsajja

Section II part C has nothing to do with what you do in production. Section II Part C contains requirements for filler metal manufacturing, specification, classification, and testing. There are some manufacturing suggestions and recommendaitons in the appendices but these are not required.

The field is filler metal manufacturing only. The query was about classification testing of filler metal.
