The AWS d1.1 table 5.8 specified a minimum fillet weld size of 3 mm for a base metal thickness lower than 6 mm. can I apply the acceptance criteria (table 6.1) which says: for fillet weld size lower than 5 mm, the allowable drecrease form size is 2 mm? so if I have a fillet weld size of 3 mm, could I accept fillet weld size of 1 mm whenever the undersize portion shall no exceed the 10% of the weld length?. The drawings indicate 3 mm fillet weld size. The code interpretations is confuse in this term.
Please give me some advices
Thanks. Miguel P.

I beleive you are correct. Technically you could accept the weld. Is this construction or manufacturing. If manufacturing, your engineering standards might be more stringent as for minimum weld size. A .042" fillet weld is pretty small.

Hope this helps.
