Thank you so much for the warm welcome. I really appreciate your time and others as well, in answering my concerns.
I note that there had been a quick welding job performed on the two pieces to try and weld them together along two outer edges using 7018. The complete weld didn’t just crack; it just broke out completely, leaving a large V where the weld once was.
In the past, it had been welded along the sides at one time which actually did hold. I don’t believe that weld was a Ni rod though, as the color looked and rusted like the parent metal.
In regards to welding with a 11018 or a Nickel 99 rod, the four holes that are stripped are about one inch diameter by one and one half inches deep. Are you thinking that I should fill the holes completely, and then redrill and tap them? If so, do you have any suggestions on how I should proceed, i.e. preheat, procedure for filling hole, actual rod to be used, etc?
If this is cast steel, are there different types that I need to know about before I proceed?
