Hello , All I want to know the minimum allowable thickness for fuel oil storage tank bottom plates according to API 653 the nominal plate thickness was 12mm ,and now some points reach to 2 mm , are them needing repair or , not ?
The minimum allowable thickness for bottom plate of tank as per API 653 is half of the original thickness of the bottom plate. The thickness of 2 mm which you mentioned is even lesser than the absolute minimum thickness limit as defined in the earlier edition of API 653 which is 0.1" (2.54 mm).
